Hair extention Q&A

Q: If you have thin hair, is it safe to get extentions?
A: Yes. "They are a comletely safe option for thin or fine hair," says Joel Warren of N.Y.C's Warren-Tricomi Salon. "Ask your stylist for bonded extentions - I recommend Great Lengths because they're super-lightweight."

Still not sure? Do a test run with clip-in extensions (find ones that match your color and texture at kenpaveshairextensions.com).

Hair extensions are a great way to wear fabulous hairstyles, especially long, curly hairstyles when you're sporting short hair.

Hairstyles how-to: from ponytail to updo

Q: I'm good at ponytail hairstyles like Jennifer Lopez, but I'd like to try another easy updo. How to do a simple but chic-looking updo?

A: We're loving the chignon - as seen on the fall runways - because it's chic and simple to do. First, gather the hair as if you're going to do a low pony; then twist it toward the top of the head. Secure with pins, and finish with a texturizing spray.
Ps: if you want a sleek, polished bun that's always seen on the runway and extra stylish, use a CHI flat iron to get your locks perfectly straightened first.

Get Freida Pinto's Beautiful Hairstyle and Makeup

Luminescent gold and olive showdow brought out the iridescent jewel tones in Pinto's dress at a recent event. "You can't get this type of spark using matte shades," says Charlotte Willer, her makeup artist. Willer's trick for getting the effect just right? Lightly scribble balck eyelner over the entire lid before layering the shadow on top. "It tones down the shimmer just the right amount," she says. "It's a good way to play any color safe."

Maintain Your Salon Haircut At Home (2)

3. Add some conditioner before shampooing your hair.
Your haircut won't look good if the ends aren't kept properly, which is one thing that most people will neglect. Here's an important tip from Kevin Mancuso, creative director of Nexxus Salon Hair Care: before you shampoo add some conditioner to the ends of the hair. Shampoos have dehydrating effect which often result in split ends. Adding some conditioner will help protect the ends and thus keep the hair looking glossy and shiny.

4. Let your haircut grows out into a new shape
Once getting a great new haircut, we often want to make it last forever, so we rush to the salon every a few months to trim it, flat iron it, or curl it. But the best advice from hair stylist is to let it grow into a new shape. It will develop and look like a newly cut style, still being incredibly salon-worthy. Only if you follow the above tips and you good take care of your haircut after getting out of the salon, you could be assured that your original cut will transform into something new and beautiful as each day goes by.

Maintain Your Salon Haircut At Home (1)

Having just got a new haircut in the salon and feeling great? Beware that if you don't take proper care of your haircut, it will go from fab to drab in just a few months. Here are some tricks and tips. Follow them and you will keep your hair looking salon-worthy:

1. Avoid short bangs or blunt cuts but try long layered haircuts
If you don't have enough time or money for routine trims, think twice before you go for a blunt cut or short bangs, which will soon grow longer and distroy the original style.Instead, a long and layered haircut is suggested for busy women nowadays. As it grows longer, it looks like just a longer version of the same style and still keeps the beauty.

2. Treat your hair well
Even though you have a great haircut in the salon, it won't look the same great once you have split ends or breakage. So after you go out of the salon, start taking good care of your hair. For one thing, don't brush it or blow dry it with a hair dryer too often; for another, invest on some good quality hair conditioners, shampoos and lotions. Good products could maintain the health and luster of your hair, and thus your haircut will last longer and still look salon-worthy even after a few months.

Get her look: Rihanna's Sexy Curly Hairstyle at 2012 Grammy Awards

Wow! Rihann rocked a head full of loose blonde ringlets with wispy bangs to the 2012 Grammy Awards and looked amazingly stunning. The sexy rocker had ditched her signature fiery red strands and opted for this charming blonde hue. We love this great hairstyle choice.

RiRi's stylist Ursula Stephen has revealed how to create this gorgeous look, definitely one of the most beautiful curly hairstyles during the 2012 Grammy Awards:

1.Prep hair - which has been dyed blond - with a rich lotion, which will promote texture later.
2.Divide hair into small sections, securing with bobby pins.
3.Wrap the sections around a 1" flat iron and hold it there for a few sections. Here I recommend a digital CHI hair straightener with 1" barrel size, which creates sleek, beautiful curls without damaging hair.
4.After finishing curling the hair, loosen the curls gently with a brush for a softer, messy look.
5.Spray with a light hold hairspray for finish and hold.

Want a new haircut

It's always said that a woman's wardrobe is always missing a piece of clothing. So with hairstyle. Everyday I hear people asking the same question: I want a new haircut! What haircut on earth would suit me?

Well, this kind of problem appears to be no solution. So many times I search and search the Internet, and finally find a celebrity hairstyle that I'd love to steal. Happily and hopefully I take the photo and go to the hairdresser: "Hey, I want this hairstyle. Give me exactly this." Well, it's often the case that your hairstylist will tell you that the hairstyle is not suitable for your face, or the style doesn't match your characteristic, or the haircut is hard to come out on you... Finally, you'd rather go back to your old hairstyle.

When you are determined to let the hair stylist decide your look, the hair stylist, in turns, throw back the question to you. "How short do you want to cut your hair? Would you like to keep bangs? A center part or side part? ..." God, that's what I want to ask you! Finally, I'd rather go back to my old hairstyle, for being safe.

Every time I go to the hair salon, the experience is almost the same as the above. So I lost interest of going to the salon. But from time to time, I would ask: I want to change my hairstyle.
Exactly what hairstyle would look good on me?

Perhaps the next time I will buy a wig instead.

Seeing the doctor

It's been nearly a week since I got a cold but things went worse.Saturday morning when I waked up, I felt a sudden pain inside my right ear. Things like this never happen before. So I quickly went to the hospital emergency department, but the doctor said the ear might be a serious matter and I should see a ENT if things din't go better in 3 days.

Three days later, the pain in the ear has been eased but I still feel clogged, and the hearing was obviously not as good as the left ear. I was frightened, and rushed to a ENT.

Patients were a lot. I sat in the waiting room and wait. I was just about to fall asleep when the doctor called me.

Doctor asked me a few questions and checked my ear. I had some red secretions in the right ear, which she said was not bleeding. Tympanic membrane was found integrity without damaged signs. So I did not get otitis media. Even the anti-inflammatory drugs are not necessary. Judging from my situation, it is very likely that I have caught "sudden deafness". My God!

According to Baidu:
"Sudden deafness is a sudden unexplained sensorineural hearing loss, also known as storm deaf. Of unknown etiology ... it occurs acutely and progresses rapidly, which should be regarded as the ear emergency...best treatment time is within one week... treatment would be ineffective in
ten days..."

As I wavered out of the hospital, I still can not believe that without a sign, I'm going deaf. Is it a joke from god? If everything is cause and effect, I can't figure out what I did in the past causes what I got today.

There is bright sunshine in the street, but I feel cold. A breeze of wind mess my hair, yet I don't bother to take care of it. Perhaps, I should go for a short haircut! If we can't change things, we can change ourselves. I must cheer up and move on.

Lantern Festival

Today is the Chinese Lantern Festival, also known as the Yuanxiao Festival. It's the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations. Alas, my New Year vacation. We've already started working for a week and I expected a half day off, but no.

Therefore I could only take this break and recall what Lantern Festival was like where I was a child. In my hometown every year on this day, the villagers danced and sang to celebrate. The routine program is the dragon dance, lion dance, stilts, land boat dance, donkey dance, Yangko. I never knew how long these traditions have been, but I love them.

Now living in the big city, I work for the whole day like most people. Holidays have become more and more commercial. I could see that the streets are full of sales and promotion activities. Well, if there's a big discount on hair dryers, I will consider buying one, for my own Lantern Festival. Anyway, when finished working, I will go to karaoke with my friends and celebrate.
